Swedish Massage

90 minutes: $230.00

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. Swedish massage is one of the most commonly offered and widely recognized types of massage therapy. It is primarily used to promote relaxation and improve blood circulation. This type of massage typically involves the use of hands, forearms, or elbows to manipulate the superficial layers of the muscles to improve mental and physical health.

Swedish massage involves several key techniques that include the following:

  1. Effleurage: These are long, sweeping strokes usually performed with the palms, and are used at the beginning and end of a Swedish massage session. Effleurage is beneficial for relaxing the muscles and increasing blood flow and lymphatic drainage.

  2. Petrissage: This technique involves kneading the muscles with the hands, knuckles, or elbows. Petrissage helps to free up knots and tension in the muscles. It also stimulates the nervous system, which enhances bodily functions.

  3. Friction: These are deep, circular motions that cause layers of tissue to rub against each other, increasing blood flow and aiding in the breakup of scar tissue which forms following an injury.

  4. Tapotement: A rhythmic tapping action performed with the edge of the hand, fingers, or cupped hands. This helps to energize the area being treated and is often used to conclude a session.

  5. Vibration: This involves the therapist pressing on certain areas of your body and then rapidly shaking them for a few seconds. This action helps to relax the muscles.

Benefits of Swedish Massage

The benefits of Swedish massage are extensive and can help to:

  • Enhance relaxation: Reducing stress and anxiety through calming hand movements that soothe muscle tension and promote relaxation.
  • Increase blood flow: The various techniques used can improve circulation, which enhances the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to muscle cells and helps remove waste products or toxins.
  • Improve flexibility: By relieving muscle tension, Swedish massage can increase range of motion and flexibility.
  • Pain relief: It's often used to manage pain, such as muscle strain or arthritis pain.
  • Boost immunity: By stimulating lymph flow—the body's natural defense system—it can contribute to a healthier immune system.

Considerations

Before receiving a Swedish massage, discuss any health issues with the massage therapist. Conditions like significant inflammation, certain cancers, heart problems, certain skin conditions, and pregnancy often require adjustments to the massage technique.

Swedish massage is an effective choice for those looking to reduce stress and enhance wellbeing through a gentle and soothing massage therapy. Whether you are new to massage or an enthusiast looking to unwind, Swedish massage offers a great way to pamper yourself and maintain good health.

Hot Stone Therapy

60 minutes: $190
90 minutes: $260

Hot Stone Therapy is a style of massage where heated stones are placed at specific sites on your body to deepen relaxation and promote circulation in your muscles. Muscles that are heated with these stones release tension and stress much more deeply and quickly than with a traditional massage. The overall experience is very relaxing, nurturing, and rejuvenating.

The primary techniques involved in hot stone massage include:

  1. Placement of Stones: The therapist places heated stones on certain areas of the body, such as along the spine, in the palms of the hands, on the belly, or even between the toes. This placement helps to loosen up tight muscles and balance energy centers in the body.

  2. Gliding Massage: Therapists also hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body. The warmth of the stones helps in making the muscles more pliable, which enhances the deeper massage strokes.

  3. Combination with Other Techniques: Hot stone massage is often combined with other massage techniques such as Swedish or deep tissue massage, providing a unique and effective therapy session.

Benefits of Hot Stone Massage

The benefits of hot stone massage are comprehensive, making it a popular choice for relaxation and therapeutic purposes:

  • Deep Muscle Relaxation: The heat from the stones helps to relax muscles, making it easier for the massage therapist to manipulate deep tissues more effectively.
  • Pain Relief: The warm stones improve circulation and blood flow to the area, helping to reduce muscle spasms and increase flexibility and range of motion. Chronic pain conditions, such as fibromyalgia and arthritis, can also be managed more effectively.
  • Stress Reduction and Mental Benefits: The soothing heat is significantly relaxing, helping to reduce stress and anxiety, and can promote better sleep.
  • Detoxification: Improved circulation moves metabolic waste that accumulates in muscles more effectively out of the body.
  • Improved Circulation: The heat from the stones causes your blood vessels to expand, resulting in better circulation and heart health.

Considerations and Cautions

While hot stone massage is generally safe when performed by a trained therapist, it's not suitable for everyone. Individuals with certain conditions should avoid this type of massage:

  • Skin conditions such as burns, rashes, or eczema
  • High blood pressure, unless managed by medical treatment
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Pregnancy (specifically, the use of hot stones may not be advised)
  • Those who have difficulty feeling heat changes due to peripheral neuropathy or other conditions

How Hot Stone Massage is Performed

During a hot stone massage, you will lie on a massage table, typically covered with a sheet or large towel. The therapist heats the stones in water until they reach a specific temperature (usually between 130 and 145 degrees Fahrenheit) and carefully monitors this to ensure your safety and comfort throughout the session. Sessions generally last between 60 to 90 minutes.

Conclusion

Hot stone massage offers a deeply soothing, relaxing form of therapy that addresses both physical and psychological stressors. Whether you're looking to loosen tight muscles, improve circulation, reduce stress, or simply indulge in a moment of relaxation, hot stone massage can be a valuable addition to your wellness routine. As always, consult with a healthcare provider or a professional massage therapist if you have any concerns about whether hot stone massage is appropriate for you.

Pregnancy Massage

60 minutes: $150

Pregnancy massage, also known as prenatal massage, is specifically tailored to provide relief and support to expectant mothers. It focuses on the unique needs of pregnant women, adapting traditional massage techniques to ensure safety and comfort. As the body undergoes dramatic changes to accommodate the growing baby, pregnancy massage can help manage discomforts and enhance the physiological and emotional well-being of the mother.

Techniques and Adaptations for Pregnancy Massage

1. Positioning: Due to the sensitive nature of pregnancy, women cannot lie flat on their backs for extended periods, particularly after the first trimester. Pregnancy massage is often performed with the woman lying on her side, supported by pillows or cushions to ensure comfort and safety for both the mother and baby. Some therapists use specially designed tables with hollowed-out areas and pillows to accommodate the belly.

2. Gentle Pressure: The massage uses lighter pressure than a regular massage, especially around sensitive areas like the abdomen. The therapist focuses on relieving tension in key areas that bear extra weight and strain during pregnancy, such as the back, shoulders, neck, and legs.

3. Focus Areas: Special attention is given to areas of the body that are particularly affected by pregnancy, such as the lower back, hips, and legs. Swelling in the hands and feet can also be addressed through gentle massage and attention to the lymphatic system to aid in reduction.

Benefits of Pregnancy Massage

1. Reduced Stress and Anxiety: Massage helps to calm the nervous system and promote relaxation, which can help reduce stress and anxiety associated with pregnancy.

2. Relief from Muscle Aches and Joint Pain: As the body changes, muscle tension and joint pain can increase due to additional weight and shifts in posture. Massage helps to relieve these discomforts.

3. Improved Circulation: Massage can enhance blood and lymph circulation, which can help reduce swelling and improve oxygen and nutrient delivery to both the mother and baby.

4. Better Sleep: Many pregnant women experience discomfort during sleep. Massage can alleviate muscle and joint pain, leading to better sleep patterns.

5. Emotional Support: Regular touch therapy can provide emotional and physical comfort, which is valuable during the emotional roller coaster of pregnancy.

Considerations and Cautions

1. Trimester Considerations: Massage is often avoided in the first trimester due to the risk of miscarriage associated with this period. Many therapists require a doctor's approval before performing a massage in the first trimester.

2. Pre-existing Conditions: Women with pregnancy-related diabetes, high blood pressure, or preeclampsia should consult healthcare providers before receiving a massage. Conditions like severe swelling, high blood pressure, or severe headaches should be evaluated by a healthcare provider to rule out pre-eclampsia.

3. Avoid Certain Techniques: Techniques that involve pressure to certain points on the body that might stimulate pelvic muscles or that are uncomfortable or risky for pregnant women (like deep tissue work) should be avoided.

4. Professional Expertise: It's crucial to seek out a massage therapist specifically trained in prenatal massage. They will understand the nuances of how to provide a safe, comfortable experience tailored to the needs of an expectant mother.

Conclusion

Pregnancy massage is a therapeutic approach designed to support the physical and emotional well-being of pregnant women. It provides significant relief from the physical discomforts of pregnancy and can contribute positively to the maternal journey and prenatal health. As with any therapeutic approach during pregnancy, it is essential to consult with healthcare providers and work with qualified professionals trained in prenatal care.

Shiatsu

60 minutes: $90
90 minutes: $150

Shiatsu massage, a therapeutic technique rooted in traditional Japanese medicine, translates in Japanese, shiatsu (指圧) means "finger pressure.". In addition to the direct stimulation of pressure points along the energy pathways of your body, gentle stretching techniques are applied over a wider area of the body to integrate the point work and encourage the flow of Chi (energy) throughout the body. Shiatsu is a meditative healing art that honors the body, mind and spirit.

This form of massage therapy involves rhythmic sequences of pressure applied to the body to correct imbalances and promote health. Unlike Western massage techniques, Shiatsu is performed with clothes on and doesn't typically use oils or lotions.

Techniques Used in Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu involves a variety of techniques including pressing, tapping, soothing, knocking, and stretching, performed by the fingers, thumbs, palms, elbows, knees, and feet of the therapist. The main techniques include:

  1. Pressure: The core of Shiatsu massage is pressure applied to specific points on the body similar to those in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine, known as meridians. This pressure helps to release tension and enhance energy flow.
  2. Stretching: Shiatsu also incorporates stretching techniques to improve circulation and flexibility, which help in balancing the body’s energy.
  3. Manipulation: Gentle rotations and manipulations stimulate the joints and help align body posture.

Benefits of Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu offers several health benefits, including:

  • Regulation of the autonomic nervous system activity and alleviation of stress and anxiety, leading to enhanced relaxation.
  • Improvement in circulation, reducing muscle stiffness and enhancing organ function, which in turn boosts the immune system.
  • Pain relief: Effective against a variety of pain including neck, back, headache, and arthritis due to muscle relaxation and improved blood flow.
  • Enhancement of skin health and muscle tone.
  • Improvement in digestive function by stimulating the internal organs.
  • Contribution to emotional and mental health by easing anxiety and depression.

Considerations

Shiatsu is generally safe for most people. However, there are certain conditions where caution is advised or a consultation with a healthcare provider is necessary before undergoing therapy. These conditions include, but are not limited to, significant spinal injuries, recent fractures, infectious skin disease, open wounds, or immediate post-surgery periods. Pregnant women should also consult health care providers to discuss any risks or adaptations needed.

How Shiatsu is Performed

Shiatsu is typically performed on a futon mat on the floor, though it can also be adapted to a massage table or chair. The therapy session usually lasts from 45 to 90 minutes. During a session, the practitioner assesses the recipient's condition of energy, also known as "Ki," to tailor the pressure and methods used to the individual’s needs.

Conclusion

Shiatsu's holistic approach aims to treat the mind and body as interconnected entities, addressing not only physical ailments but also psychological and emotional well-being. Its non-invasive nature and focus on restoring energy balance make it a popular choice for those seeking alternative or complementary therapeutic practices. Whether you're grappling with chronic pain or stress, or simply looking to maintain health and balance, Shiatsu massage offers a compelling method to help manage your well-being.

Energy Work

30 minutes: $60

Add on service.

Energy work is based on the belief that everyone has a “life force”, and that the body needs to sustain its balance for optimum health. Anytime you experience emotional or physical illness, it indicates that your life force has simply become unbalanced. I work directly with your energy field to restore balance and flow to your entire system. And once your energy field has been restored to full health, your body will follow.

Energy healing is a complementary approach rooted in the belief that our bodies have energy flowing through them. This practice aims to balance this energy flow, leading to purported health benefits. Here’s what you need to know:

  1. Definition:

    • Energy healing, also known as energy medicine, involves practitioners channeling healing energy through their hands (or other mediums like acupuncture needles) to restore energy balance in the client’s body.
    • It may or may not involve physical touch.
    • The National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) recognize energy healing as a technique to promote overall wellness

Massage therapy with energy work is a practice that manipulates the physical body with the goal to promote the free flow of life energy. It helps find balance for the body, mind, and spirit. Energy healing seeks to restore, promote and maintain health and wellness to all elements of the body

It's also a great way to release stored emotions. If you have experienced trauma in your life our bodies hold onto that trauma. Energy healing is a great way to release those stored emotions in the body. Some have had emotional releases that include crying, laughter, some might feel anger when these feelings are finally released and are all normal, and nothing to be ashamed of. Energy healing is great work!  This is a great add on to your massage

Columbian Wood Therapy

60 minutes: $160

Colombian wood therapy, also known as "Maderoterapia" (which is Spanish for "wood therapy"), is a technique that originated in Colombia and has gained popularity in various parts of the world, especially in the realms of beauty and wellness. This unique therapy utilizes specially designed wooden tools of different shapes and sizes to improve the body's size and proportions while relieving stress and tension.

How It Works

Wood therapy involves a series of movements that are performed using wooden instruments to manipulate targeted areas of muscle, fat, and cellulite, stimulating the lymphatic drainage system to remove toxins and fat. This method is non-invasive and aims to firm and tone the body, making it a popular choice for cellulite reduction and body contouring.

Tools Used

The tools are typically made from wood and are carefully crafted into various shapes, each designed for specific areas of the body or types of massage strokes. Common tools include rollers, cubes, cups, and more sculpted designs intended to match the body's contours. These tools allow for highly targeted pressure that can influence the deeper layers of the skin, muscles, and fat.

Benefits of Wood Therapy

  • Body Contouring and Cellulite Reduction: The pressure and movement provided by the wooden tools help break down fat and cellulite, resulting in smoother skin and a more toned appearance.
  • Increased Lymphatic Drainage and Circulation: The massage techniques used in wood therapy can help boost blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, aiding in detoxification and promoting a healthier metabolism.
  • Pain Relief: The intense manipulation of the muscles and fascia can help relieve body pains and muscle tension, similar to a deep-tissue massage.
  • Relaxation: Despite the vigorous nature of the therapy, the rhythmic application of the wooden instruments can be quite soothing, helping to reduce stress and promote relaxation.

Applications

Wood therapy is often used in spas and clinics as part of a larger body treatment routine, sometimes combined with other therapies such as heat or essential oils for enhanced effects. It's particularly popular for:

  • Enhancing the definition of body contours
  • Reducing cellulite and breaking down stubborn fat
  • Promoting weight loss alongside proper diet and exercise
  • Improving general blood flow and lymphatic drainage

Considerations

While wood therapy can be beneficial, it is important to seek out a trained and experienced therapist to ensure the technique is applied safely and effectively. The intensity of the therapy might not be suitable for everyone, especially those with certain medical conditions or sensitivities. As with any therapy, it's recommended to consult with a healthcare provider if you have concerns about its suitability for your health condition.

In summary, Colombian wood therapy offers a unique and natural approach to improving body aesthetics and enhancing overall well-being, capitalizing on the therapeutic properties of wood and specialized massage techniques.

Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage Massage

60 minutes: $160

Brazilian lymphatic drainage massage is a specialized form of massage that focuses on encouraging the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart. Originating from Brazil, this technique has gained international acclaim for its effectiveness in promoting detoxification, boosting immune function, and enhancing the overall appearance of the skin. It's particularly noted for its aesthetic benefits, including reducing bloating and the appearance of cellulite, and promoting weight loss.

How It Works

Brazilian lymphatic drainage massage involves gentle, rhythmic pressure and specific strokes that follow the direction of the body's lymphatic system. This stimulates the lymph flow, helping to speed up the removal of toxins and excess fluids from the body. Unlike traditional massage techniques that focus more on relieving muscle tension, this method targets the lymph nodes and drainage pathways.

Techniques Used

  1. Gentle Pressure: The pressure applied is lighter than that of typical massage therapies, as the lymphatic vessels are located just beneath the skin. Heavy pressure would flatten these tiny vessels and stop the flow of lymph.

  2. Rhythmic Circular Motions: Therapists use soft, rhythmic motions to stimulate lymph flow. These movements are often circular and are performed with flat hands or fingers.

  3. Directional Stroking: Strokes are directed toward the nearest group of lymph nodes (neck, armpits, groin, etc.), following the natural direction of the lymphatic system to facilitate fluid drainage.

Benefits of Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage Massage

  • Reduction of Swelling and Bloating: By enhancing the flow of lymph, this massage helps reduce fluid retention and swelling, particularly in the abdomen, legs, and arms.

  • Detoxification: Regular sessions can help detoxify the body, improving overall health and vitality.

  • Enhancement of Immune System: Improved lymph flow increases the removal of pathogens and waste, potentially boosting immune responsiveness.

  • Skin Appearance: It can improve the appearance and tone of the skin, reducing cellulite and making the skin look tighter and more youthful.

  • Post-Surgical Recovery: It is often recommended after cosmetic surgeries to reduce swelling and accelerate healing.

  • Relaxation: Despite its focus on health and cosmetic benefits, this massage is profoundly relaxing and can help reduce stress levels.

Considerations

While Brazilian lymphatic drainage massage offers numerous health and aesthetic benefits, it's not suitable for everyone. People with the following conditions should consult with a healthcare provider before undergoing treatment:

  • Heart conditions
  • Kidney failure
  • Thrombosis or history of blood clots
  • Active infections
  • Certain types of cancer
  • Lymphedema post-surgery

It's important to seek out a trained and experienced therapist to ensure the technique is applied safely and effectively. This therapy requires specific knowledge about the lymphatic system and the anatomy of the body to provide benefits without causing harm.

Conclusion

Brazilian lymphatic drainage massage is an effective and soothing technique beneficial for detoxification, immune health, and cosmetic enhancement. Its gentle approach makes it a popular choice for those looking to reduce bloating, enhance skin appearance, and promote a sense of well-being through natural body processes.
